All for The Ashes
No cricket fan would be missing this exciting Ashes series. The Harmisson burst on early first day was undone soon after by the program, McGrath. 71 of his 78 deliveries were on good length, and 55 of these were on or outside the off stump. While this is known of McGrath, its really surprising how batsmen round the world have not learnt to play him or that length and line. Even Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar are felled by him a li'l too often. The average of some of the greatest batsmen in the world against McGrath reads:



So, that tells the story (in part, ofcourse). Only the Kiwis have played McGrath better ( this, over 14 matches, not jus' after a match or two). And among the others, its only Sourav Ganguly, (yes the same short-ball-vulnerable, outside-off-fishing, luxury in the Indian team, who has been there only for his captaincy!!! Now, don't start arguments like Ganguly plays at #14, and Sachin plays at # 0, blah, blah, blah... this isn't abt who's better btn Sachin and Sourav. The mere argument proves they are comparable) who has a decent average, closely followed only by the greatest Brian Lara.

If this is one story, why can the English not play Warne? They have been playing for years now, and still start groping and sweeping to get hit themselves or to rock the stumps, when it comes to Warne. And this man has to be given credit. He's withstood all these off-field affronts, and still came to the field and delivered it on the ground. Yes, its kind of disappointing when someone who's regarded as a role-model, gets involved in such things. But, he's been delivering more than what anybody else does with his bowling, and that's what you pay him for.

Now, the fire is being kindled and rekindled by the media and ex-cricketers, you can imagine how the ashes will be. The urn will still be hot when the winners (Aussies?) set their hands on it. But, how hot can England make it with their deeds, not words, on the field?
