THE FEDERER PHENOMENON
After quite sometime, I got a chance to watch Federer in action. He clearly belongs to a different league and beleaguers the opponent. He seems to be a complete package, and Hewitt seems to be the able second to him, though should honestly admit Roddick is improving, but a bit late, as Federer has reached the pinnacle that others can't even fantasize.
It is harsh on any opponent, that Hewitt din't protest all those uncalled long serves only showed he wasn't playing for the championship, but only to complete the formality. With Federer's current form, any men's tennis tournament begins with Federer as the champion, except when something like the AUS open happens, and for everyone else, its jus' reaching the finals that's important.
No other player seems to possess that magnificent single-handed backhand, and when he hits that shot, the ball is too low that you can't force it back into Federer's court.
I don't know why ESPN wanted to show the Roddick-Hewitt match soon after, it was 3 tie-breakers, and showed Hewitt isn't actually as bad as he was in the just concluded championship match. It was just that he had to play a player from a different level altogether.
Although I know and want Federer to win, I definitely like the way Hewitt played today, he was losing, and never actually gave up, he even made the commentators start talking of a possible Hewitt recovery in the third test, only the opponent he was playing was never going to let anyone take it away.
Will have to wait for Wimbledon to see if there's someone who can sneak in...
